December 21st: End of a Cycle

I have a feeling that this year is going to bring about a lot of change. Drastic change. I have no idea how it's going to be played out, but humankind is in a very fragile state. Because of greed and the desire for maximized profits, our diet has become so refined and processed that it is the cause of many diseases, people are starving to death while there are massive amounts of food being wasted, people are being exploited, many plants and animals are going extinct, and our natural resources are so polluted. We are on the verge of killing ourselves off completely. We need to make drastic changes for our own survival.

Why aren't people surprised when the government lies to them? Isn't it a well-known fact that the government lies to us? So when someone says that the government is doing something so horrible, or have malicious reasons behind these horrible things, why do people ignore them and laugh at these "conspiracy theorists"? Wasn't every political move, since the beginning of history, the same as a conspiracy? Why automatically ignore them? There is proof that, in the 1940s, the government secretly fed plutonium to pregnant women and other people! Everyday we hear about more injustices and appalling stories such as this, all over the world. What kind of sick twisted world have we become?

Not only is the physical and mental health of the world all messed up, but I think our spiritual side isn't very healthy. It seems the world is very divided and extreme on both sides on this issue; there are religious fanatics or hypocrites that focus on the differences of religion, and there are atheists and others who believe that religion is the problem and want to get rid of it. After being part of the religious and atheist world, I realized that everyone is right. Religion has a lot of good information, great values to live by, but I don't believe there is a jealous God. I think spirituality should be determined by the individual, but I think it's an important part of a person's life. Nothing is really separate. Even science and spirituality are starting to blend. The imbalance of every aspect of our lives may be hurting us more than we might believe.

December 21st, 2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar, the end of a very large cycle. It does not say anything about an apocalyptic end. If you look closely at your own life, your own behavior, you notice patterns that take place, unless you try hard to fix them. That's why so many people end up acting like their parents; we learn them, especially the younger we are. If you look at evolution, animals got increasingly complex and "stronger" as time went on. Now compare that to human evolution, how we went from simple social structures, to a very complex, yet damaging, society. It's like we're in the dinosaur age of evolution (we're even using "dinosaur blood" for fuel), but now it's time for us to evolve into the mammalian age, the most nurturing and advanced creatures. The aggressive, cold-blooded structure is not working anymore.

I think the Mayans somehow had knowledge of this evolution that is taking place now. Their calendar appears to be symbolic, pertaining to the consciousness of the human race, as it corresponds with the major changes in the world, like the Industrial Revolution. Right now there are people becoming much more aware of the situation and demanding change in the middle of a financial crisis. As I said before, we are in a very fragile state that could wipe us out, or make things much, much better. But I believe humans are born good and loving, so I think humans will choose the right path. December 21st is probably just the start to a long journey.
